Silva was created as part of the Nature and Place art commissions, an initiative of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Arts Office. The images were made during a series of planned walks in the six forests of Ticknock, Tibradden, Barnaslingan, Carrickgollogan, Kilmashogue and Ballyedmonduff. I see them as series of “observations in the field” – a visual language for the thoughts and ideas that occur while undertaking these walks. The Silva images are an attempt to represent a multitude of perspectives of the forests - from the canopy to the understory to the forest floor. Silva was realised as a limited edition artist’s publication. The work was duotone printed and produced in an edition of 200.
