Through Stylian Tastsoglou’s photographs, The Cabin captures fleeting, candid moments of people inhabiting a temporarily built structure. Borrowing from the visual language of photobooths, the images transform a familiar format into something more subversive. The result, represented in this simple staple-bound zine, is a series of portraits that feel both spontaneous and deliberate, playful yet confrontational.
The zine explores the boundaries between public and private intimacy within queer nightlife and were captured during SMUT Press' collaborative event Sex Moves Us Together with party and design collective, playbody, at Algha’s Plantroom on November 9th, 2024. At its core, the publication is about how bodies, space, and visibility interact, especially in environments shaped by rave culture and sexual subcultures.
The zine centers on a custom-built “cabin”: a compact, semi-translucent installation that draws from the architecture of both club toilets and sex-on-premises venues. Inside, participants are invited to engage physically (with the space and with each other) while remaining partially visible from the outside. The intimate shots push the boundaries of the familiar, casual format of the photobooth and allow the subjects to present powerful, unapologetic depictions of themselves that challenge the norms of representation.
