Boxing has always been more than a fight. It’s movement, a rhythm, and a place to belong. It’s a discipline that gives shape to chaos, offering focus where there might otherwise be none. This work began in small, grassroots gyms – spaces alive with energy, where young people find purpose through repetition and sweat. The thud of gloves, the breath between rounds, the hum of friendship and rivalry. It’s here that boys and girls, young men and women, begin to find their footing. For many of the young boxers I’ve met, the gym is a lifeline – a way off the streets, out of harm’s way, and into a world of structure and self respect. It replaces uncertainty with discipline, and isolation with belonging.
