Artist Statement

This work is part of a series of prints produced in the summer of 2024, working from plants in my garden. I produced drawings from observation and then used these drawings as the basis for this four-colour drawn monotype. I chose to work on a small scale to capture the size and delicacy of the flowers that I was drawing. Monotype is a printing process where printing plates are inked up in different colours and used to transfer a drawn image onto paper, layered up in different colours. The image is unique (there’s only one, no edition) and the result is usually quite unpredictable…it depends on the ink, the colour, the paper, the tools used for drawing, and how the paper reacts with the ink. I like the unpredictability and the unexpected things that happen during the process.
