Artist Statement

Finding deep connection within the parallels of Frida Kahlo and Amy O’Riordan’s lives, she presents a powerful performance adorned in an Iconic Costume, flower crown, plus elaborate jewelry. Looking with a combination of unspoken strength but also an empathetic vulnerability, O’Riordan gazes directly into the eyes of her audience.

In the work “Doppelganger”,  both the personal and artistic lives of Kahlo and O’Riordan morph into one.

About the Artist

As a performance photographic artist, Amy O’Riordan explores her personal identity, navigating this very complex world as a female. She produces visual photographic art inspired by the historical traditions of painting and her ongoing research into the developments of feminism. She works both in front and behind the lens of the camera, creating her very own visual language. She is an artist living with continuous chronic pain due to spinal nerve damage as a result of a life-changing accident sustained thirteen years ago. In her performance self-portraits, O’Riordan creates a beautiful world she can escape into and also authentically express her personal lived experiences. Through her powerful female gaze, she directly engages with her audience. Her constructed photographs are meticulously organised from costume, makeup, lighting, to props. From her conceptual ideas to metaphorical references, everything is carefully considered.

Framed prints are no longer posted. We only deliver framed prints within Dublin. All postage costs for unframed works are processed separately following the order of the print.
