DESCRIPTION

The Slow Camera Exchange Project is a Cork-based team working in the MTU Gallery at 46 Grand Parade, part of the MTU Crawford of Art and Design, and are currently working towards compiling the photographic archive of contemporary photographer Hermann Marbe, who passed away in 2018. Their objective is not only to compile and preserve Marbe’s photographs, but also to find ways in which the objects can be used for research, wellness, therapy, creative writing and art-making. Their archive is a living thing: and as such are always looking for ways to interact with the objects inside it, along with propelling and extending the knowledge of the Archive. For this reason, they have been asking artists, photographers, writers and archivists to interact with Marbe’s photographs through poems, essays, photography, collages and creative writing practices in their Spring Issues publications.

The Third Issue of the publication treats the themes of archiving and explores such theme through a variety of interactions of archives which concern Cork city as a space and community, the usage of Marbe’s photographic archive in education and research, and the possible creative re-workings of archived materials.
