Artist Statement

This collage was inspired by Giuseppe, who worked as a baker all his life.
This is an homage to this wonderful, hard and creative trade.

About the Artist

Sara Serpilli is a visual artist working with a variety of mediums such as photography, watercolor, textile, and clay. Passionate about folkloric and surrealist art, she always liked to create visuals rooted in reality but with a touch of odd and unfamiliar sense to them. She began studying cinematography and photography, and she subsequently wanted to integrate different media into her practice.

In the last few years, she got more and more interested in textile art, and she started playing with photography, textiles, and embroidery.

Her style and themes are influenced by surrealism, psychology, taxonomy, and Italian metaphysical painters. Having lived abroad for over 19 years, her practice is based on the exploration of topics such as emigration, family, womanhood, language, and personal/social identity.

She always tries to push her boundaries, and her aim is to create a body of work that is beautiful, impactful, funny, and unconventional all at the same time.
