DESCRIPTION

Fly the Flag is a handmade artist’s book documenting a participatory art project by Éilís Murphy. Climate Camp was held in a field beside the Shannon Estuary near Tarbert, Co Kerry, Ireland in August 2022. The purpose of the camp was to show resistance to the proposed Shannon LNG (liquefied natural gas) terminal nearby. As part of the camp, artist Éilís Murphy facilitated a flag-making workshop. Participants designed and painted large-scale flags that were then erected along the roadside boundary of the field. The flags were a colourful display of resistance and they remained in place for three months after the camp.

This handbound artist’s book captures the vibrancy of this collaborative project, with flag-shaped illustrations of the participants’ flags.
