DESCRIPTION

Drift, a handmade artist book by Lebanese artist Rhea Karam. Known for her poetic engagement with urban walls, Rhea transforms fragments of the city into layered visual narratives—cutting, spray painting, and overlapping textures that act as an archive of stories accumulating in the public space. Drift continues this exploration, bringing the energy of the streets into book form. Karam’s practice moves fluidly between photography, printmaking, and installation, always returning to walls as sites of dialogue—between people, architecture, and time. With Drift, these conversations unfold page by page, reminding us that the city is not static, but alive with stories of displacement, identity, and resilience.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rhea Karam (B. 1982) born in Beirut, lives and works in New York. Rhea’s work focuses on deconstructing the urban landscape with an emphasis on public walls and the role they play in our daily lives. The enriching dialogue created around and upon walls allow her to explore various themes such as history, displacement, identity, communication, architecture and the environment. Although mainly photographic, her practice also includes painting, printmaking, public street installations and a particular appreciation for creating unique, limited edition artist books.
