DESCRIPTION
Anna's notes is a selection of photographs and writings made over a year or so when my daughter Anna was seven years of age. Anna suffered at this time from separtiaon anxiety from her mother, particularly at night-time and she would often become upset and want to stay up.  By writing notes Anna was able to communicate what was on her mind and very often became the starting point for a conversation. Most of the notes were written by Anna at nighttime and slipped under the living room door for her mother to find.  The notes focus on concerns and worries that Anna had at the time and was a way for her to express them to the people around her, particularly her mam.   Playful yet poignant, the notes record that phase of childhood where cognitive, emotional and social developments lead to the understanding of the finitude of human existence and the complexity of human relations particularly the maternal one.

Brian Magee is a lens based artist who works as a photography tutor with the FET Dhulaigh.  Whilst a photography student in DIT I was selected to exhibit work in the Bright Young Things exhibition (Gallery of Photography) and went on to appear as guest on the Late Late show in 1999 to show and discuss my work.  At this time I worked as a freelance photographer and was particularly active around the Dublin music scene.  Upon qualifying with first calss honours from DIT I was the only graduate selected to attend Arles Festival and I had my degree show exhibited there.   I continued my visual arts practice and exhibited in EVA 2005 and had two solo shows Ard Bia (Galway) 2006 & Pale Space (Dublin) 2007.  From 2007 I have continued to make work but my focus turned to raising a family (3 children) and instilling an appreciation of the visual arts in my students.  My latest exhibition was part of the Open the Gates Exhibiton in 2022 Anna's Notes.
