Bryony Dunne (1984) is an Irish artist and filmmaker based between Athens and Dublin. Dunne lived and worked in Cairo for four years before relocating to Athens. Building on her background in documentary photography and visual anthropology, she explores the intricate relationships between humanity and the natural world. Botanical, zoological constructs and colonial backdrops deeply inspire her work.

Dunne’s work has been exhibited at places such as the Irish Film Institute, London’s Mosaic Rooms, Goldsmiths University, Cairo’s Townhouse Gallery, HKW Berlin, The Gypsum Gallery and Sharjah Art Biennial 13. Her films have gone on to receive several awards and are distributed by Videographe in Montreal and the Royal Anthropological Film Institute in London. Her latest film Above the Law (2018) was selected as Ireland’s official nomination for Euroconnection held at Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. She is currently working on her first feature-length film, entitled Pembe (Swahili for “horn”), who was the sole male of the world’s three remaining Northern White Rhinos when he died in March 2018.
