DESCRIPTION

Poetry Ireland Review is a highly-regarded journal of poetry. Published three times a year, the Review includes the work of both emerging and established Irish and international poets, essayists, critics and visual artists.

Poetry Ireland Review Issue 149, edited by Colm Tóibín, is now available for pre-order purchase. It features new poems from David Nash, Sinéad Morrissey, Jamie McKendrick, and Molly Twomey, as well as work from rising poets Emma Buckley and Courtney Darby, among many others. The Irish-language selection includes poetry from Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh and Máirtín Coilféir.

In this summer issue, 21 titles are reviewed, including: Declan Ryan’s assessment of two much-anticipated debuts, Graeme Richardson’s Dirt Rich and Dean Browne’s After Party; Ella Frears reviewing ‘the people’s poet’, Rita Ann Higgins, and ‘your favourite poet’s favourite poet’, Martina Evans; Liam Carson evaluation of a trio of Irish-language titles, including the ‘lyrical’, ‘mythical’, and ‘political’ poetry of Laoighseach Ní Choistealbha; and more.

In other prose, Irish-language editor Aifric Mac Aodha includes vignettes in Irish and English from a sextet of poets paying tribute to the late Gabriel Rosenstock. And Cian Dunne, in an essay on translating Tara Bergin into Russian, sets himself three questions to answer: Why Tara Bergin? Why Russian? And why Cian Dunne?

Michael Coleman provides the artwork for this issue, his work noteworthy, in the words of editor Colm Tóibín, for its ‘dark mystery and rich interior life’.
