DESCRIPTION

Poetry Ireland Review is a highly-regarded journal of poetry. Published three times a year, the Review includes the work of both emerging and established Irish and international poets, essayists, critics and visual artists.

Poetry Ireland Review Issue 146, edited by Stephen Sexton, is now available for pre-order purchase. It features new poems from Paul Maddern, Julie Morrissy, Audrey Molloy, and Dylan Brennan, as well as work from rising poets Kevin O’Farrell and Viviana Fiorentino, among many others. Irish-language editor Aifric Mac Aodha’s selection includes poetry from Gabriel Rosenstock and Ciara Ní É.

In this summer issue, there are a total of 29 books and pamphlets reviewed, which speak on subjects as diverse as eco-poetics, widowhood and ageing, and making poetry in a broken world, including new collections from Bebe Ashley, Rosemary Jenkinson, and Katie Donovan; also debut pamphlets from Rafael Mendes and Clíodhna Bhreatnach.

Other prose in this issue includes Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin’s review of Adrian Frazier’s unflinching biography, John Montague: A Poet’s Life, as well an assessment of the inimitable Paul Durcan’s 80 at 80 from Martin Dyar. The issue also features two complementary and insightful essays marking the 50th anniversary of two landmark publications: Seamus Heaney’s North, and Michael Hartnett’s A Farewell to English, from Edna Longley and John McAuliffe, respectively.

Special poetry contributions to the issue include a previously unpublished poem from Michael Longley.

The artwork in 146, which explores the juxtaposition of beauty and decay, is from award-winning realist painter Stephen Johnston.
