About the Artist

Maria Baez is a visual artist born and raised in Spain. She completed her degree in Fine Art and a Masters in 2D Animation and Illustration in Madrid before moving to Dublin. Maria has lived in Dublin 8 now for five years and has been captivated by the way that community and locality is constructed through liminal spaces and interpersonal connections that can’t be easily captured. For this reason, she sets out to provide a visual registrar of the different components of a community, and the apparently mundane aspects that hold them together.

Maria now largely works in risograph, screen printing and digital illustration. She is deeply inspired by DIY comics and a punk ethos; not sacrificing quality but believing that artistic production can be performed by the communities who it effects the most. More than anything, Maria cares about people, their expressions, their lives, their routines, and their gestures. She believes this is what makes places so special and wishes to share this with her viewers.
