Artist Statement

In this meditative painting, of hand-painted ink on indigo-washed paper, delicate lines trace the quiet rhythm of a tree’s life, expanding outward in gentle ripples of time. The indigo ground holds a stillness that invites contemplation, while the hand-painted rings become a visual mantra on growth — slow, patient, and enduring. Through this intimate process, the work speaks to the unseen movements of renewal that connect the natural world and the quiet unfolding of our own becoming.

About the Artist

de Gordun is a self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist whose practice explores themes of identity, place, and duality. Her practice deepened when she discovered that she comes from a long lineage of seamstresses and tailors, a revelation that led her to introduce textiles into her work. This connection inspired her to engage with embodied knowledge, using the process of making as a way to reconnect with her heritage and infuse her practice with a deeply personal historical narrative.

In her series Poetics of Space, de Gordun explores the meeting point between mysticism and botany. Drawing inspiration from French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s reflections on daydreams and natural spaces of refuge, such as shells, nests, and nooks, her work creates a contemplative environment where spiritual mysticism and the natural world converge.

In her Earthing series, de Gordun extends this inquiry through paintings inspired by the rings of trees. These quiet, rhythmic forms become a meditation on growth, inviting reflection on the subtle movements of time, memory, and spirit that shape our shared experience of the living world.
