Suburban Fantastic (radial)
2025
Photography
32 x 32 cm Framed
Edition of 5
€480 Framed (includes 13.5% VAT)
Suburban Fantastic explores the suburbs of Cork City as a series of shifting and fragmenting perspectives. Rather than being a safe, known, homogenous built environment, what if the dimensions of the suburban landscape began to fracture and reconfigure, with time and space collapsing and folding on itself? These photographic experiments are extensions of the visual language and material nature of the interactive photobook of the same name.
Chris Finnegan is a Cork City-based visual artist and arts educator working primarily with photography. Having recently returned to Ireland after a decade in the UK, his practice explores suburbia, memory, childhood, and the domestic sublime. He frequently collaborates with his young sons, using play and game-based strategies in his image-making and exhibitions.
His solo shows include PlaySpaces (Cork Midsummer Festival, 2025), House Rules (PhotoIreland Festival, 2022), and The Grammar of Home (Galway City Library, 2024). In 2025, he presented interactive photo-sculptures in The Grammar of Home at the Lord Mayor’s Pavilion. His photobooks include
House Rules (PhotoIreland, TLP Edition) and Suburban Fantastic (Biscuit Books).
Chris has undertaken residencies at Cow House Studios and Sample-Studios (2024) and was awarded an Arts Council Agility Award in 2023. He represented Ireland in FUTURES 2024 and is a member of the this/OUR artist
collective, recipients of the Arts Participation Project Award (2025). He also received the Arts in Early Learning and Childcare Scheme Award for PlaySpaces, a project with Cork Midsummer Festival and Cork Child Friendly City.
Chris holds a BA in Fine Art from TUD, Dublin, and a Master's in Photography from Falmouth University.
