Karen Browett is a visual artist with a focus on eco processes for lens media, drawing from qualifications in horticulture. Karen has been working with experimental plant-based substitutions for photographic chemicals and building DIY pinhole cameras, with an intent to create a materially relevant, sustainable way of working. This journey of process, play, experiment, and material importance has allowed her to understand her practice as a collaborative endeavour, where the plants have their own agency. This informed the ethos of working ‘with’ rather than ‘from’ the land.
Karen has recently shown at Earthbound Tales, Pallas Projects // Studios, Feb 2025. In this research-based exhibition, an inner city brownfield site was considered. It serves as a green corridor in a built-up area, and supports a multiplicity of interactions, human and non-human. The site is presented as a space for mindful engagement, commoning, and world-building. Karen is a resident studio artist in Dlr Baths.
