Dawn West is a visual artist and printmaker based in Co. Waterford, Ireland. Her practice employs repetition and intuition, unfolding through slow, layered processes of drawing, printing, and photography. Whether working on paper or digitally, she explores the tension between control and surrender, intention and accident, presence and absence.
In these photographic works, West turns her attention to the managed landscapes of monoculture forests near her home — spaces that suggest abundance but are stripped of biodiversity. Digital mark making disrupts these ordered environments, introducing artificial colour, gesture, and variation. The resulting images suggest both disturbance and renewal: unnatural marks that contrast natural complexity, evoking questions about what constitutes life, growth, and authenticity in a controlled world. Across media, West’s work favours awkward forms, quiet surfaces, and a minimal aesthetic. Each piece becomes a record of process and perception, where meaning emerges through the act of making rather than design. Her practice reflects a sustained meditation on repetition, response, and the balance between natural and constructed systems.
