“The project is dedicated to the study of a mental disorder known as dementia. This disorder was diagnosed in my beloved granny Iryna, with whom I had a very close relationship. At some point, I felt the urge to photograph my grandmother in those moments when she was talking about her visions. I started researching her condition. Slowly I was immersed in my grandmother's delusions. Creating my project, I intended to share my experience of communicating with a person with dementia. I want to set an example for young people today to take an interest in the lives of their grandparents, as their stories about their young lives can be surprising and interesting.
In my book, I want to show my grandmother not only in her old age dementia condition. I want to show her vivid personality, courageous, beautiful, young, and progressive, which wasn't an everyday fact in the middle of the XX century.
The title of the book is both generic and individual at the same time. Everyone has a grandmother and my grandmother's story can resonate with millions of people who have grandparents who suffer from dementia. And at the same time, my book is a very personal story.”- Olena said.
