Gaelic Fields
Paul Carroll

The work imprints the rituals, decisive moments and flow of a GAA club game onto the backdrop of the local environment. Football, hurling, camogie and ladies football games – Ireland’s national games – are depicted at all adult levels in every county.

Running from the outlying Gaelic fields of Aran and Inisturk islands, South Kerry and the Glens of Antrim to the unique urban landscapes of Cork, Dublin and Belfast, the work incorporates a vast array of locations in between. The four seasons and multifarious elements of Irish weather are interwoven in a snapshot of each city and townland, the people and their team.

Saint Patrick's Day
Frank Miller

From the mid 70’s through the 80’s, Saint Patrick’s Day was very special for Frank Miller. While often he shot the parade as a staffer for the Irish Press Group, he much preferred to have the day off and mooch around the fringes looking for the quirky stuff. If he was shooting for the paper, the main focus was the bling of the floats, politicians and performers, but for him, on his days off, the fascinating thing was the audience, the crowds of ordinary decent people, families, kids, youths, American and Celtic nation visitors, all on a very special day out, enjoying a celebration of Irishness.

STAFF RECOMMENDATION

Another Street Portraits Book, Diarmuid Doran

"This is a collection of street photographs taken mainly in North Dublin between 2020 and 2024. Although shot in Dublin it is not an Irish story and not a traditional approach to the city but looks at a newer Dublin with its varied colours, vibrance and cultures. It was never my intention to create a book, it arrived shot by shot to my surprise..

Initially my intention was to photograph landscapes and cityscapes and as I worked strangers approached me interested in what I was doing and would tell me stories about themselves. As I worked regularly day by day walking the streets, I realised what was in front of me, these people, were much more interesting and so the collection developed into a series of portraits through meeting with these strangers."

- Diarmuid Doran

18 More Ballads after James Joyce's Ulysses Volume II
Val O'Donnell

18 More Ballads After James Joyce’s Ulysses, Volume II is both a tribute and a transformation: a celebration of James Joyce’s Dublin, retold through voice, rhythm and performance. These ballads do not explain Ulysses — they bring it to life, capturing its humour, humanity and musicality in a form meant to be read aloud, sung, or staged.
