The theme of the book is the hidden stories behind the ostensibly desolate space of a mid-20th century low rise and sprawling industrial estate. It comprises essays, poetry, photography and a brief history of the estate and the British builder behind this mid- 1960s development. Thematically the publication challenges how we perceive what aresometimes called ‘non- places’ and opens up discussions on 20th century industrial heritage and fluidity in urban environments.
Dorothy is a visual artist whose work explores the built environment of public space. She is Curator in Residence, Droichead Arts Centre and creator of This is Our Place, essays and drawings on Dalymount Park. Jackie is a walking artist and writer who interrogates the everyday experience of the urban landscape in her work. She has published essays across various platforms including in Dublin by Design: Architecture and the City and in Dublin Exchange: Reflections on a City in Flux.
