Over the past 4 years artist Vanessa Daws and curator Rosie Hermon have been working on Swimming a Long Way Together a project inspired by the 20th century pioneering swimmer Mercedes Gleitze as part of its wider celebration of swimming and swimming communities. This book interweaves photos and texts of performances and ideas that different people have contributed over the life of the project.
Vanessa is a visual artist and long distance swimmer based in Dublin, her art practice works at the intersection of art, swimming and place. Swimming, journey, chance encounter and conversation are the starting points for her projects. Vanessa has been developing a multi-layered way of working with different communities in different disciplines, all connected through particular bodies of water. Vanessa had an exhibition at the LAB Gallery, Dublin, running from 19 September - 22 November 2024.
The book is edited by Rosie Hermon and designed by Peter Maybury.
