A Time & Place is a photographic record of Boston during a period of transition, shaped by years spent walking its streets, alleyways, and MBTA train stations between 2016 and 2023. The work reflects a city experiencing rapid change, as gentrification and redevelopment gradually altered neighborhoods and displaced long-standing communities and culture. Much of the project was photographed underground, using Boston’s subway system as both a physical and narrative structure. Stations, platforms, and aging train cars serve as connective tissue between neighborhoods and moments, capturing the city in what felt like its final phase before widespread modernisation. Rather than presenting a nostalgic or idealized portrait, the book documents Boston as it was at that time, uneasy, imperfect, and fading, preserving fleeting scenes before they slipped into memory and the city became something else entirely.
