Como olhar junto (How to Look Together) is a multi-sensory and collaborative project by Brazilian visual artist Luiza Baldan, encompassing a book, video, photographic series, and performances developed between 2023 and 2025 in Cova do Vapor, Almada, Portugal. Through stories shared by local residents, especially elders, Baldan maps the affective and architectural memories of a seaside village marked by the displacement of homes and communities threatened by the sea.
The book interweaves personal and collective narratives, combining photographs, archival material from the Biblioteca do Vapor, and written contributions from collaborators such as Eduardo Gomes, Cristiana Tejo, Maria do Socorro, and Manuela Fidalgo. The result is a rhizomatic publication that connects the artist’s personal geography between Cabo Frio (Brazil) and Cova do Vapor (Portugal), reflecting on belonging, displacement, and the persistence of community.
