Artist Statement

This print forms part of Giles' Athens Collection, developed from the body of work created during a residency at KPS Studios in Athens. The series marks a shift toward abstraction, building on the visual language first established there. While earlier works incorporated found wrapping paper and chance material qualities, 'Areos Park' translates those ideas into a refined composition on Fabriano 5 paper, extending Giles' exploration of using abstraction to reflect on stillness, individuality, and change.

About the Artist

Brian Giles is a Dublin-based Artist, Printmaker, and Graphic Designer. Through the process of printmaking, he explores the relationship between place, memory, and identity. Using screen printing, risograph, collage, and photography, he layers textures and shapes to create prints that balance precision with spontaneity. He is drawn to the unexpected marks of the process, moiré patterns, ink bleeds, and creases, which become part of the language of the work.

Over the past seven years, Giles has worked in studios across Europe, completing residencies in London, Amsterdam, and Athens, with upcoming projects in Barcelona and Portugal. He is a member of Black Church Print Studios (Dublin), AGA Lab (Amsterdam), and Print Club London. Fingal County Council and the Arts Council of Ireland have also supported his practice.

His work has been exhibited at Hang Tough (Dublin), Woolwich Print Fair, London Print Fair, Jealous Gallery (London), and Outset Gallery (Galway), and is included in the OPW collection. Alongside his studio practice, Giles leads workshops for organisations such as Pinterest and is developing pilot programmes for open-access printmaking in Ireland.
