The lesser Streams of Place is an ongoing project that proposes an artist's responsibility to document local places. It focuses on everyday scenes that are oftne overlooked and especially those that have changed or disappeared over time. By capturing these moments, the work focuses in on a certain aesthetic that might otherwise be lost.
The photographs are self-reflexive, exploring identity, social habits, and act as a rough guide of the everyday private spaces of homes and businesses in County Longford, in Ireland's midlands. Taken over a number of years, the photographs were made faithfully, spontaneously, and opportunistically, guided by curiosity and instinct.
These spaces hold an intrinsic value in regards to social and cultural anthropology. The photographer challenges what we think of as familiar and highlights the shared experiences found in ordinary places, especially those that disappear quietly, helping to represent and remember them.
For those that are not familiar with the project, TLP Editions is an ongoing collection, produced and designed by PhotoIreland, that presents work by contemporary artists in the form of uncomplicated publications. These are available through The Library Project in-store and online. All and any funds generated by the project go to producing more copies of the publications, ensuring we can keep promoting the artists and practices represented. These editions are regularly showcased and donated to international events and festivals, such as the Icelandic Photography Festival recently. In addition, TLP Editions also grace some important shelves and collections, including that of the Hasselblad Foundation Library and the Martin Parr Foundation.
