DESCRIPTION

'We present Opening Distance as an act of moving away. Movement into spaces outside supposed centres. In doing this, we aim to share and listen in more considered ways. This new space is for us to share as we wish.

Then if asked, what if no one comes? Our response is simple, this is for us.'

Opening Distance is an envelope containing 7 artists letters produced during an exhibition held last week in Béal na Scairte, Co. Corcaigh, named Opening Distance. The premise of the project was to show work outside of centres and established spaces as emerging artists.

The seven Artists taking part in this publication come from Ireland, Iran, Germany, The Netherlands, and Poland. Within this envelope, each artist has been given one page to further the spaces their research can travel to.

Maitiú Mac Cárthaigh is an Artist and Researcher from Cork, currently based in Den Haag, The Netherlands. Maitiú is currently studying a research Master in the Royal Academy of Art concerning the state of Rurality, Queerness and Industrialised agriculture in Ireland and The Netherlands.
