About the Artist

Julie Ann Haines’ work depicts moments of stillness in the overlooked corners of urban spaces close to where she lives. She is motivated by light and her subject matter is the unremarkable and unpeopled localities passed by everyday in early morning or evening when all that is left are the traces of those who have passsed through. She meticulously crops photographs to create balanced compositions and singular motifs before layering colours in either multi plate colour etchings or monotypes to produce a final print. Haines’ work submitted here was taken from photographs captured over lockdown. She is looking at the familiar and mass produced,- asking questions about the structures we collect and build and the traces we leave behind. Haines graduated with a BA Honours in Fine Art Painting from Norwich School of Art in 1989 and has been a member of the Graphic Studio Dublin since 2013. Exhibitions include The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Bankside Gallery, RHA Dublin and the RUA Belfast. Her work is held in the collections of the British Library, National Gallery of Ireland, Arts Council of N. Ireland, Dept. of Finance N.Ireland, Meath and Fingal County Councils, University of Limerick, Office of Public Works and National Library of Ireland.
