In fact my actual \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eduty inside this bus was to sleep.\"\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003e“Ayfer Karabıyık focuses on the suspension that results from repetition—of sounds, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eimages, things as we know them—through the two text pieces she included in Failure \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eCut Family Graveyard. [This publication] is an interpretation of [those] moments when \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003ewords lose their meaning, when we repeat them to ourselves, or when an image \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003estarts to become blurry and unclear upon closer inspection. Karabıyık evokes and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eexpands these moments through claiming that suspended moment as a materiality in \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eher texts. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eKarabıyık works with the ability of text to extend and shrink sounds to produce \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003emoments of suspension that are, in turn, reflected in the physicalities we project on to \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003ewhat we are reading. This work serves as a subtitle to the artist’s practice, as she \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003ealways deals with the fickleness of what we see or sense, stretching-out the words \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan style=\"font-weight: 400;\"\u003eand sounds comprising the narratives of what we could be looking at.
