The Eyes questions cultural and societal evolutions through the prism of photography and creation and gives carte blanche to experts directly concerned by the subjects addressed.
For this eleventh issue, The Eyes team invites artist-researcher SMITH and performer and curator Nadège Piton to sketch a subjective panorama of the place played by photography in the construction of the (trans)gender. The Eyes #11 questions the place played by photography in the recognition of transidentity.
“A carte blanche around the question of gender in photography”: such was the invitation that brought us here today. What should we do with this question? How are we to match up gender and photography, two conceptual titans linked and interwoven in so many ways? What “gluon” secreted by this wide-ranging reflexion would aggregate our outlooks and experiences to deliver a diagnosis, an assessment, a panorama?” – SMITH & PITON
